Apprenticeships

Earn as you learn.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable experience. You're treated just like all the other employees, with a contract of employment and holiday leave. Apprenticeship opportunities are open to 16+ and are also suitable for existing employees wishing to gain new skills.

When you're an apprentice:

  • You get paid and train at the same time, with an average of six hours a week spent in off the job training

  • You learn to be fully competent in your chosen occupation

  • You get valuable experience working whilst you learn, which helps you progress in your working life

  • Your training is funded so you are not responsible for any training costs

On average, apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete, depending on which apprenticeship you choose and your previous experience.

Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of industries and organisations, both large and small. You can explore current national vacancies on the Find an apprenticeship page on the government website

Whether you're at the start of your career, want to change career direction, or if you're returning to work after a break – an apprenticeship could be just right for you!
