Step into Early Years (Childcare - Level 1) 

This 12 week course is intended to provided an introduction to childcare whether you are a parent or carer or you are planning a career in childcare. You will be introduced to a wide range of topics including child development, engaging children through activities and personal development and you will start to develop some of the knowledge you need to care for children. This is not a qualification but it is aimed at Level 1 and provides good preparation for moving on to Level 2. You will receive a certificate of attendance stating what course outcomes you have completed during the course. 

What are the entry requirements for this course?

For all levels you will complete an initial assessment to identify your English and maths levels and attend an informal interview with a teacher.

To enrol for this course, you must be working at Functional Skills Level Entry 3 in English

Voluntary or Employment placement requirements

You do not need a voluntary placement or a job in childcare to complete this course.

How is this course delivered and assessed?

This course will be delivered face to face in a classroom at Arndale House. You will build an e-portfolio of work to show what you have learnt during the course. If you are not confident with IT and study skills we will provide you with opportunities to develop these skills alongside the course. 

Timetabled sessions are held during term time and will include workshops, taught sessions and tutorials.

Further Progression

Successful completion of this course could lead to progression to a Level 2 qualification or you may be recommended to upskill your English, maths or ICT before doing this.
