This is a free* 5 week course aimed at anyone working or training as a teaching assistant or volunteering in a school who would like to improve their skills to support children's numeracy skills. You will also have the opportunity to consider the importance of your own numeracy skills when working with children and to plan how to upskill your own maths if necessary. This is not a qualification course so there are no entry requirements for it, but you will receive a certificate of attendance.
How is this course delivered?
This course is delivered face to face in Arndale House.
What will I learn?
In this course I will learn about:
the National Curriculum Programme of Study for Mathematics in England
the importance of being aware of and using maths policies in school settings
You will able to:
identify gaps in your own mathematical knowledge and take steps to improve this
recognise the use of ICT in schools to inform maths planning and support pupils
improve your current support methods using strategies and available concrete resources
There are no specific requirements to join this course, other than a basic level of English. In terms of ESOL English, you should be working at Entry Level 3 as a minimum.
