All you need to know about the courses we have on offer

Mental Health First Aid

Would you know how to help?

We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Mental ill health can strike at any time and can affect everyone.

Although things are improving, stigma still exists around mental ill health. As a society, we don't tend to know how to take care of our mental health like we do our physical health. This means that people may not know how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue, or where to go for help with their own mental health.

Wellbeing is good for business

Healthy people are happier, more engaged and more productive. Employers across the UK are acting now to support the wellbeing of their people and create mentally healthy businesses.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England training courses teach people to spot the signs of mental health issues, offer initial help and guide a person towards support.  We don’t teach people to be therapists, but we do teach people to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis - and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

Luton Adult Learning deliver Mental Health First Aid England Courses for individuals and organisations.

There are 3 types of course available:

Half Day - Mental Health Aware - giving staff a general overview

Full Day - Mental Health Champion - equipping staff with more knowledge on where to refer people to and how to help

2 Day - Mental Health First Aid - to train staff to become a Mental First Aider (MHFAider®)

We are able to offer all three options for the Adult Mental Health first aid training.

For more information on costs as an individual, to book a session or if you are enquiring about a bespoke session for your organisation at your place of work (based on a minimum of ten participants), please contact:

Who should attend these courses?

Please be advised that these courses focus on people in a position to support others such as charities and employees in the workplace.

The various courses cover subjects that some people may find distressing, including suicide and self-harm.

If a delegate feels overwhelmed, they can leave the course at any time.

However, if you feel in advance that this subject may be too distressing for the delegate please do not book them on without first asking them whether they would feel comfortable attending. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be offered, so serious consideration is essential before you register for a course.

If the delegate is unsure whether MHFA is right for them, please encourage them to contact us to discuss their concerns.
